Becoming a Sailor in India is something that Indian youth is dreaming about. On the other hand, the Indian Navy holds Recruitment for Sailor SSR, MR, AA Every Year. In the same row, the online applications for Aug 2019 are opening from 14 December 2018. The eligible youth can apply online for Indian Navy Sailor Exam by 30 December.

Indian Navy Sailor exam is one of the most competitive exams in its category. It is all because of the Prestige of the Indian Navy. Furthermore, the Indian Navy is not only fulfilling the dreams but keeping our oceans and seas safe.

To become a sailor in the Indian Navy, the candidates can choose one of the five cadres. These cadres or groups are as follow.

  1. Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR)
  2. Matric Recruit (MR)
  3. Artificer Apprentice (AA)
  4. Musician
  5. Sports

Aug 2019 Batch Vacancy Distribution:

  • SSR: 2500
  • MR: 400
  • AA: 500

Indian Navy Sailor Recruitment Educational Qualification

At present, The Indian Navy has announced 3 Recruitments for Aug 2019 Batch. These are SSR, MR, and AA. Let’s see the eligibility details, Selection Process, and other requirements below.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for Indian Navy SSR?

Educational Qualification: As the name clarifies it as Senior Secondary Recruit, a candidate must possess a passing certificate of Class 12. The name of this grade differs in Indian Education Boards as it is given the names as Senior Secondary, Intermediate, HSC, PUC Etc. The main thing is the subjects. A candidate must have studied Maths & Physics and at least one of these subjects:- Chemistry/ Biology/ Computer Science from the Boards of School Education recognized by MHRD, Govt. of India.

Age Limits: During the time of Online Application, a candidate must be at least 16 years and maximum 20 years old. For Aug 2019 Batch,  Candidates should be born between 01 Aug 1998 to 31 Jul 2002 (Both dates inclusive).

What is the Eligibility Criteria for Indian Navy MR?

Educational Qualification: MR Represents the Matric Recruitment. Thus candidates must hold a passing certificate for class 10 from any recognized board in India.

Job Specifications.

  • (a) Chef. They would be required to prepare food as per menu (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian including handling of meat products) and accounting of ration. In addition, they will also be allotted other duties as per Service requirement.
  • (b) Steward. They would be required to serve food in the officers‟ messes, as waiters, housekeeping, accounting of funds, wine and stores, preparation of menu etc. In addition, they will also be allotted other duties as per Service requirement.
  • (c) Hygienist. They will be required to clean toilets and other areas. In addition, they will also be allotted other duties as per Service requirement

What is the Eligibility Criteria for Artificer Apprentice (AA)?

Educational Qualification: Qualified in 10+2 examination with 60% or more marks in aggregate with Maths & Physics and at least one of these subjects:-Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science from the Boards of School Education recognized by MHRD, Govt. of India.

Age Limits: During the time of Online Application, a candidate must be at least 16 years and maximum 20 years old. For Aug 2019 Batch,  Candidates should be born between 01 Aug 1998 to 31 Jul 2002 (Both dates inclusive).

Selection Process for Indian Navy Sailor

The selection of all sailor categories is based on the same pattern. Only difference happens at the Computer Based Exam. The pattern and level of questions differ according to the Category here. Let’s discuss the Selection Pattern of all categories.

Selection Method of Indian Navy Sailor SSR and AR

The selection of any candidates in SSR involves 3 different stages.

  • 1 Computer Based Test
  • 2 Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
  • 3 Medical examination

Computer Based Test: 

  • (a) The question paper will be computer-based with a total of 100 questions, each carrying 01 mark.
  • (b) The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type (multiple-choice).
  • (c) The question paper will comprise of four sections i.e. English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
  • (d) The standard of the question paper will be that of 10+2 and the syllabus & sample paper for the examination is available on website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.
  • (e) Duration of examination will be one hour.
  • (f) The candidates are required to pass in all sections and in aggregate. The Navy reserves the right to determine the pass marks in each Section and in aggregate.

Candidates should note that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the question paper. There are four alternatives for the answer to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

Physical Fitness Test: 

  • Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is mandatory for selection.
  • PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.

  • (b) The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type (multiple-choice).
  • (c) The question paper will comprise of two sections i.e. Science & Mathematics and General Knowledge.
  • (d) The standard of the question paper will be that of 10+2 and the syllabus & sample paper for the examination is available on website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.
  • (e) Duration of examination will be 30 Minutes.
  • (f) The candidates are required to pass in all sections and in aggregate. The Navy reserves the right to determine the pass marks in each Section and in aggregate.

An online application fee for all categories in Sailor is Rs 205/-.
