Ministry of External Affairs has offered an online service to help applicants apply for a passport. The applicants who want to apply for a Passport have to visit the Passport Seva website. The applicants can apply for the renewal process of their Passport online.
In the early days, when no online services existed, we all opted for the offline Passport application process. That was a hectic process, sometimes documents were not completed and sometimes the office got closed and we were waiting in long queues outside the office. But with the digital movement, we can apply for Passports online.
How to apply for a Passport online?
The applicants who want to apply for the Passport online can follow the below steps.
- The official website to apply for a Passport is https://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink.
- You will see the link to New Registration on the left side of the home page of the website.
- When you click on the new registration button, a form will open.
- In the Passport application form choose the Passport Office Name, write name, surname, DOB, email ID, and other details.
- Then, complete the registration process for the Passport application and save the login details.
- Now, open the full form of the Passport application form and write the other ask details in the Passport form.
- Schedule the appointment with the Passport office, and pay the fees to apply for the Passport.
- Submit the Passport application form.
Why is a Passport Required?
A passport comes into the picture when a person wants to visit another country. There are a few types when we talk about passports like Ordinary Passports- blue color, Diplomatic Passports- red color, Official Passports, Emergency Certificate, and others. A passport acts as a valid document that legalizes your travel to another country.
Fees Charged for Passport Application
- Rs 1500 is the fee for the Ordinary Passports which is valid for 10 years and 36 pages.
- Rs 2000 is the fee for the Ordinary Passports which are valid for 10 years and 36 pages if want tatkal service.
- Rs 2000 is the fee for the Ordinary Passports which is valid for 10 years and 60 pages.
- Rs 1000 is the fee for Ordinary Passports for people who are below 18 years of age.
- Rs 2000 is the fee for the Re-issuance of a passport with 60 pages.
- Rs 1000 is the fee for the Re-issuance of a passport with 36 pages.
- Rs 3000 is the fee for the Passport replacement.
Eligibility Criteria for Passport Application
- Indian Citizens can apply for a Passport.
- A person 18 years or above age can apply for the Passport.
- Minors below 18 years old can also apply for a passport.
How to Track Passport Application Status?
The applicants who have applied for a Passport want to track the status of the application, Follow the steps below.
- Go to the website of Passport Seva.
- Find the link to Track Application Status.
- A new form will open for the status of the Passport. In the form, write the DOB, file number, and application type.
- Click on the track status button.
